In July, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Atlantic City opened its doors to the new MGM Resorts International Teen Center for Economic Youth Development and College Readiness. With the extremely generous support of $500,000 from MGM Resorts International, the owner of the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, along with numerous other donors including Tropicana Atlantic City, Eldorado Resorts, Bank of America, George and Patty Siganos, to name a few, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Atlantic City achieved their ambitious $2 million goal to build this incredible new center for teens. Preliminary fundraising and drafting for the project began last year, and construction was completed this month. It will be a positive and exciting addition to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Atlantic City.
At the ribbon cutting ceremony, CEO and Executive Director of the Clubs Michelle Carrera said: “We want to make sure that every kid that walks through our doors has an actual path toward a career and an actual path to achieve a college education.” As a result of limited space, in recent years the Clubs was losing its teenage members while trying to prioritize its programs for younger members and opening doors to teens at 6pm. Now, with a brand new building that facilitates learning and development in areas such as technology, hospitality, and health, the teen center includes a teaching kitchen, fabrication labs, and simulation rooms. Additionally, the teen center will provide tutoring services specifically catering to high school-age youth. These new learning facilities will help to reach nearly 400 teens in the area. These programs, along with numerous other resources, will help Atlantic City’s teens to succeed and achieve their full potential, thanks to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Atlantic City and their many generous donors.
