The New Jersey State Youth of the Year program is a transformative journey that empowers Boys & Girls Club teens to become the leaders, advocates, and changemakers of tomorrow.
As the flagship youth leadership initiative of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, this prestigious program honors young people who exemplify excellence in Health and Well-Being, Character and Leadership, Academic Success, and Life and Workforce Readiness. These are pillars that shape resilient, purpose-driven youth ready to lead with confidence.
Every year, Boys & Girls Clubs across New Jersey nominate one remarkable teen between the ages of 14 and 18 to represent their Club. From there, the journey begins—filled with mentorship, hands-on training, and personal growth. These youth sharpen their public speaking, interview, and writing skills, preparing to compete at the highest levels. But this is about more than winning a title—it’s about unlocking potential and realizing the power of one’s voice.
At the state level, New Jersey’s most inspiring young leaders come together for a life-changing experience. Through rigorous evaluation—including speeches, essays, and interviews—a distinguished panel selects the New Jersey State Youth of the Year and the New Jersey Military Youth of the Year. These honorees go on to represent our state at the regional and national levels, standing as ambassadors for Boys & Girls Club youth and champions for their generation.
On May 12, 2026, at Montclair State University, we will celebrate these extraordinary teens at the New Jersey Youth of the Year Reception and Award Ceremony. Thanks to corporate partners like our Legacy Partner, DPR Construction, and Presenting Sponsor, Amazon, more than $50,000 in scholarship funds will be awarded, providing crucial support as these young leaders pursue higher education and brighter futures.
With generous backing from Raymond James, the National Presenting Partner, this program doesn’t stop at state recognition. The New Jersey State Youth of the Year will advance to the Northeast Regional Competition for a chance to win a $20,000 renewable scholarship, and potentially, the National Youth of the Year title—along with a $50,000 renewable scholarship and a national platform to inspire change.
The Youth of the Year program celebrates the power of young people, the importance of mentorship, and the potential of every teen to lead with purpose.
Great Futures Start Here—at Boys & Girls Clubs.
